Alexander Technique
"So many actors are not at home in their bodies and cannot make themselves still. The Alexander Technique shows actors their personal habits and fidgets" - Howard Fine
Direct from Sydney, Barbara Robertson is joining the faculty of the Howard Fine Acting Studio and will be leading a weekend workshops in the Alexander Technique.
Barbara is a phenomenal teacher and is excited to be working with Melbourne actors outside of her ongoing role in the Howard Fine Master Classes. In these workshops, students will learn how to apply the Alexander Technique to their work in performance. The first of these workshops is open to everyone and explores the practical application of the Alexander Technique, the second is designed specifically for drama school graduates, studio alumni and highly experienced performers.
As a performer it is important to learn how to take care of your own health and well being. The Alexander Technique is a simple and practical tool to improve the way you use your body. It shows you how to enjoy freedom and ease of movement, balance, support and co-ordination. The Alexander Technique re-educates the mind and body to use appropriate amounts of energy for the task at hand, allowing more energy for all your activities.
In this workshop you will learn to become embodied in breath, posture and movement. You will develop your confidence in exploring the unknown and turn mental energy in to physical energy. This workshop will help you to explore and use your instrument; in performance your characters come from your physicality and your voice - your instrument is the key to both. Effective self-tapes, auditions, screen and stage work are about stillness and presence, both of which come from a dynamic body.
In this program you will also find the keys to identifying excessive and unwanted postural and movement habits (facial, vocal and physical) which detract from your presence and unlock a way of Being rather than Doing in order to release your Power.
