Audition Prep

Welcome To The Studio

Congratulations on submitting your application for the Howard Fine Acting Studio Australia!

Below you will find some information about the audition process, a download link for the audition pieces as well as some additional resources.

Please note: The 10 Week Essential Program acceptance is only through application, you are not required to audition. You may, however, find the below information and resources helpful anyway!

We recommend reading the information very carefully. Once you have completed your application form and paid your application processing fee (10 Week Essential & Youth Program applicants exempt), someone from the office will be in touch with you to schedule your audition.

In addition to completing the application form and paying the application processing fee, please also ensure that you have emailed a copy of your headshot and resume to admin@howardfinestudio.com.au (Youth Program applicants exempt).

What To Prepare

Please prepare two monologues (Youth Program applicants only need to prepare one monologue). The first must be from the list of audition pieces provided below, the second can be one of your own choosing or it can also be from the ones provided by The Studio. Your personal monologue selection can be classic or contemporary, and from any playwright. In addition to preparing your two monologues, we strongly advise that you read Howard’s book ‘Fine on Acting: A Vision of the Craft’, paying particular attention to the chapter on the ‘Eight Steps’.

It is also highly recommended that you read the entire play from which your monologues are taken. We also encourage you to attend a Sample Class (listed in the What’s On Calendar, or contact The Studio directly), Read the ebook (emailed to you when you subscribed to the newsletter) or watch some of our acting videos on our website, as this provides excellent insight into the way we work at The Studio.

The Audition Timeline

All auditions are now held online; upon receiving your application, we will contact you to schedule an audition time for the next available audition day and provide you with a Zoom link and details. Throughout the audition process, all auditionees are updated with regards to their application status (for example: being offered a place, requested for a second audition etc).

You will audition individually with one of our faculty members and, on occasion, one of the studio managers. We anticipate that your audition will last 20-30 minutes. You will be expected to present (and work) on your audition pieces in the room (or online) and undertake an informal interview.
